This Steinway A3 looks good, sounds great, and plays very well. It's suitable for recitals in smaller halls or for home/studio use. At 6’4” it’s a rare (made in NY only between 1913-45) and much-coveted size between the current 6’1” Steinway A2 and the 6’11” Steinway B. It was completely rebuilt in 1999. The case and belly were done by A.C. Pianocraft in NYC retaining all original case parts. They replaced the pinblock, soundboard, strings and bridge caps. The action was restored at that time by Kim Muller in CT with Abel German action parts, retaining the original ivory key tops. It suffered from low humidity in the winter of 2000 at the owner's home, developing a narrow split in the soundboard that closed up after a 2-tank PianoSaver system was installed. The split is musically and structurally insignificant, but lowers the asking price. The soundboard has full crown and good downbearing.The tuning pins are tight and the tuning is very stable. New NY Steinway shanks and hammers were installed in December 2016. It has an exceptionally rich, bell-like tone throughout the treble range. The tenor and bass are strong and colorful. Great dynamic range, easy to control. Includes leather adjustable bench, one tuning, climate control system, one-year warranty on all moving parts, and local delivery.
